New Summer Study Abroad Program in Brazil!

The Department of Romance Languages and Litertures is proud to offer a
new Summer Study Abroad Program in Brazil!

The language and culture program at PUCRS (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul) introduces students to one of the most dynamic universities in Brazil and all of Latin America. Students will stay with Brazilian families in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, where PUCRS is located, and take Portuguese language courses from Brazilian faculty. Coupled with the language courses will be a course on Brazilian Culture taught in English by Villanova faculty and local excursions led by a “gaúcho” guide twice a week to explore Porto Alegre, its culture and history. The 135 acre campus is equipped with modern classrooms, one of the most technologically advanced university libraries in Latin America, a science museum, a large gym facility with multiple floors and sports, an industrial park, restaurants and much more! Regular classes will be in session, and students will be able to meet Brazilians through their homestay and on campus. During a long weekend trip to PUCRS’ forest reserve, Pró-Mata, students will explore environmental issues with PUCRS experts. The summer program will conclude with a 3–4 day academic excursion to Rio de Janeiro.
