 For more information, see below.

Mariana Pineda
Mariana Pineda was a heroine of the liberal cause in 19th Century Spain, whose short and turbulent life came to an abrupt end when she was hanged for embroidering a revolutionary flag. Her story was immortalized in a traditional folk ballad, which inspired Federico García Lorca to pen his well-known play depicting her life story. The Cádiz-born bailaora Sara Baras takes Federico García Lorca´s play to the territory of flamenco dance, under the direction of Lluis Pasqual and original music by the renowned flamenco guitarrist Manolo Sanlúcar.

The Disappearance of García Lorca
Federico García Lorca now stands as one of Spain’s greatest icons. But in 1936, he found himself standing in front of the firing squad at Ainadamar (“fountain of tears” in Arabic)—quite literally caught in the middle of the Spanish Civil War.  The Disappearance of García Lorca (1997) is a drama-biographical film directed by Marcos Zurinaga, based on a book by Ian Gibson, about the life and murder of the Spanish poet.  It stars Andy García, as Lorca, Edward James Olmos, and Esai Morales, as a journalist who investigates Lorca’s disappearance during the early years of the Spanish Civil War.
